1. I was really proud of my chicken dissection lab. I felt like I saw everything I was suppose to see and was really proud of my end result. :)
2. In enrolled in this biology class because the human body fascinates me & I need it for a pre req for the nursing program.
3. I felt prepared only due to the fact I have taken this class once before, but was not impressed with my professor the first time.
4. Everything has exceeded my expectations. I am understanding the material we are learning extremely well. And I don't feel intimated to ask questions in this class.
5. I don't need any help as of right now but your explanations on the material are always very informational and helpful. :)

The Heart Unit Paper Three
The
Heart
As we all know the heart is the most important
organ in our body. It has several jobs
and functions. I chose the heart to do
my unit paper on because I find the fact that it does so many different
functions al at once extremely interesting, and this is a way for me to learn
more on this organ.
During find research on the heart I found some
facts about the organ that caught my attention.
One of them was, “ a kitchen faucet would have to be turned on all the
ay fro forty-five years to equal the amount of blood pumped by the heart in an
average lifetime.” (36 interesting facts about the human heart.) Another fact is the volume of blood pumped by
the heart can vary over a range from five to thirty liters per minute. Laughter is perfect medicine for the heart.
“A good belly laugh can send 20% more blood flowing through your entire body.
One study found that when people watched a funny movie, their blood flow
increased. That’s why laughter might just be the perfect antidote to stress.”
(Amazing Facts About Heart Health & Heart Disease.)
Just finding fact about the heart was
interesting. It is crazy to think about
how our heart pumps blood to our entire body, and without this one special
organ we would not live. The heart is a
very complex organ and I hope to learn everything I can about it in my
lifetime.

Unit paper #1 Questions:
1. In this past unit the activity I was most proud of was my cheek cell lab. I was able to get a spectacular view of my cheek cells and was able to identify the different organelles. This was also my favorite lab.
2. In this unit I was able to understand the information about the hypotonic solutions, isotonic solutions and hypertonic. They can get pretty confusing but I am confident I have them down now.
3. The actions I took to help enhance my learning was looking up different youtube videos to have some of the things explained further in detail for me. I find videos extremely helpful.
4. I felt most connected in this unit when going over The Chemistry of Living Things. In chapter three I felt like i got a little lost at times but was able to catch up.
5. I honestly enjoy the way you teach and include videos with the discussions we have in class so I don't believe you should do anything different. Maybe draw more diagrams on the board. BUT please keep power-points.

The DNA Molecule
As we know DNA comes from characteristics from each of or parent. But this is not all DNA does. DNA is an abbreviation for deoxyribonucleic acid. It is the genetic material in all living things, and it instructs each of our cells on what it needs to do. The reason I chose the DNA molecule is because it amazes me how much one tiny molecule can carry so much information and have so many tasks to complete. Well at eye view DNA does indeed look small but one entire strand of DNA could fill up 200 1,000 page New York telephone books.
The discovery of the DNA answered two questions that would not of been possible to answer without the discovery of this molecule. The first question was, how can the information for specifying an organism be carried in chemical form? The second question was how is it accurately copied? (The Structure and Function of DNA. By: NCBI. 2002.) This in my opinion was an incredible discovery. Our DNA also encodes information through a certain sequence. This is where DNA makes all living things different from each other because we all have different DNA sequences. Which means we all carry different biological messages. DNA is also the code for protein synthesis and also contains the characteristics for the control of our functions, behavior and also the development of each organism. ( What is the function of DNA? By: Wiki Answers. 2013) One last interesting fact I found about DNA was that we have about three billion bases in our genome. Genome meaning our entire sequence of DNA. ( DNA Fun Facts. By: Dr. Hsien-Hsien Lei. 2013.)
Throughout learning about the DNA molecule, I discovered that our DNA is a sequence of different nucleotides. I also discovered that DNA has several more jobs that just creating an organism. I enjoyed learning about the DNA because it is a complex structure with so much to do and I hope to learn more about it when we start learning cell reproduction.
